Identifying and Understanding Challenging Behaviors in Preschool

Challenging and disruptive behaviors in the preschool setting are often troublesome and difficult for teachers to effectively handle and talk with parents about. This training will highlight some of the cognitive and social/emotional developmental milestones of 3-5 year olds: how children of preschool age think and play and understand the world around them. Developmentally appropriate behaviors will be described along with “red flags” and possible indicators of trauma. The function of inappropriate behaviors will be discussed along with sensory integration. Finally, teachers will be guided to brainstorm together on how best to talk to parents and share intervention strategies and best practices.
